As time resumed, Mitsui and Xeric entered the inn. As Mitsui jumped in and yelled “I scared a god,” Mitsui’s travelling companions kinda ignored her, being used to her weird antics and point of view by now. Seraphina wanted to speak with Xeric, however he informed her it had been a tiring day, and he just wanted to go to bed. She agreed, it had been a tiring day and went to bed also.
Mitsui and Jayr were both eating to their heart’s content. Kida, also having had a tough day, remained downstairs and started drinking. After a good few drinks, 13 to be exact, she really wasn’t in her right frame of mind. She decided that the grass outside seemed nice and would be a good place to sleep. Mitsui, aware of what was outside, went to try and drag Kida in. She tried and tried but to no avail, Kida was just physically too strong for Mitsui.
Jayr ended up coming out to help as well, but he also could not get her to come in. MItsui said the lords might be ghosts, and they needed to get her in. Jayr mentioned Kida might be scary to passerbys, which caused Kida to start crying. Jayr finally picked her up and carried her (wedding style) into her and Seraphina’s room. Seraphina was concerned about Kida and asked her what was wrong. Through the sobs and tears, Kida managed to say people thought she was scary. Jayr, who had stayed in the room, mentioned he may have said something about Kida potentially being scary. Seraphina, not happy with Jayr’s words, hit him in the family jewels, made sure he left the room, and then tried to comfort Kida before going to sleep.
Jayr went back downstairs and slept in the tavern portion of the inn, along with Mitsui and Hark. When morning came, Seraphina was first one out the door to check on the horses. There she noticed the brothers Marthun and Lezryk arguing. Lezryk wanted to go out on a hunt again, but Marthun wanted to take a few days off.
Seraphina went back in and ordered breakfast. Kida came down and ordered breakfast as well but did not speak outside of this. She looked downcast, so Seraphina drew up a nice picture of a smiling half-orc and passed it to her. A small smile briefly came upon Kida’s face.
Marthun came back in without Lezryk.
Xeric came down a bit later, saw what was going on and said “I’m not dealing with this,” and headed back to his room. Seraphina caught up to him as they needed to talk. Xeric agreed and brought Seraphina into his room.
In the room, Seraphina told Xeric about the events that had happened the night before. About how the three brothers were now two, what occured after the two came back to the inn, and how they tried to get that information. She went on to explain how the injured brother agreed to give Jayr and Seraphina a reward if they killed his remaining brother. Jayr agreed to this and had him leave. Xeric just shrugged at the end of this retelling and said it was Jayr’s problem.
Seraphina then asked Xeric what happened in the keep? He told her Mitsui could explain it better. Seraphina gave Xeric a look and questioned Xeric on this. After all, Mitsui could barely communicate. Xeric agreed but wanted to tell everyone only once, so Seraphina went downstairs to gather the rest of the party. Mitsui was super excited at this thought and rushed upstairs. The rest of the group headed up a bit slower.
Once everyone was in, Xeric recounted the tale of the keep. The lords of the keep were wights. Mitsui pitched in, saying how “yes, they all white, white clothes, white skin, etc.” Xeric just continued on, explaining how some weird stuff happened. A god was summoned, or demon lord, named Orcus, Lord of the Undead or some shit like that. Xeric couldn’t be bothered to remember the details. Mitsui once again piped in calling it the “ugly whale god.” A talking tome then came out of Mitsui’s body. Mitsui turned down a deal with Orcus and then the wights started to attack. Mitsui ran into the portal to fight Orcus and Xeric followed. Mitsui interrupts, I make ugly whale god scared and run away. Then we found ourselves in a mansion and met another being, who called himself the Messenger of the Gods, who helped them out. MItsui piped in, calling him “Xeric Friend” and “Xeric Daddy.” Next thing they knew, they were at the inn, and that was that.
Xeric finished off by saying this place was dangerous, and they needed to get out. The party agreed, and they started packing up. Mitsui started asking the Avgar about the undead hunt lords. Avgar had no clue what Mitsui was talking about, as the hunt lords were human. MItsui then went outside, and found Brayan, who tried to walk away from her. When Mitsui mentioned she knew the hunt lords were wights, Brayan turned around and told her the truth about the village. Villagers were afraid to leave since the hunt lords would hunt down and kill them. When Xeric learned this, he wanted to help. He paid for a room for Brayan and bought him some food, telling him to barricade himself in until Xeric got back. He went to each of his party members, asking for help with this, insisting the wights were dangerous.
The party reluctantly agreed. As they were getting ready to head to the keep, they encountered the Ghost Frienders again. Although not ghosts, they were interested in this, especially the rituals. They weren’t the best fighters but would be happy to help investigate the place afterwards, and they would turn over any treasures to Xeric but would be keeping any texts regarding the ritual. Xeric agreed, and both groups headed to the keep together. Xeric handed each of his party members a x-potion on the way.
Mitsui, focused, was the first at the door. The doors were closed, so they knocked. Amrath opened the slot again, saw who it was, and told them to go away. They kept on knocking, and after being told to go away one more time. Jayr mentioned something about, “mumble, mumble, Misty Step” and Mitsui told the group to wait a minute. They then had Xeric open the peep hole slot using his Thieves’ Tools. Then nodded to Hark who then used poofed inside (using MIsty Step) and opened the door for the party. Mitsui knocked out Amrath and then stripped him of all but his loincloth before tossing him outside.
They then went on to the banquet hall, where Mitsui remembered seeing the “whites” before. Mitsui threw the x-potion at a candle (hoping it would blow open the wall), alerting the wights to the party’s presence. Last time, Mitsui, on her own, was welcomed in. This time, with a whole group, they didn’t hesitate to attack. Each of the wights summoned a skeletal warhorse to help in combat. The group fought the wights, and while many of the members were only doing partial damage, Mitsui’s ki-infused fist and weapons, and Harks silver scimitar, were key in the group’s success. Amazingly, this was the first time the group fought together as a unit and not a single member fell.
After the fight, the party and the Ghost Frienders scoured the keep to find everything they could. The Ghost Frienders found a book with instructions on a ritual to contact Orcus, which the heroes allowed them to keep. They also got a couple of magical items, a scroll, and some money and gems. They then returned to town, with Xeric having cut off one wight head and Mitsui the other four. As they showed the townsfolk the heads, the people rejoiced. When Xeric told Brayan, he was so thankful he attempted to give Xeric a bag with 20 gold, his savings, as thanks. Xeric told him it wasn’t necessary, and gave it back, having snuck in an additional 5 gold into the bag.
Our heroes had a rousing success. No severe injuries, no deaths, and a town praising them as liberators. It was a good day, and as time came to a stop, the world seemed to be at peace.
