Storm King’s Thunder (2) Session 77 Recap

  • Our heroes scried on Klauth yet again after their rest when they noticed he didn’t seem to be arriving. They saw Klauth had been flying back southwest.
  • After some discussion they figured Iymrith had probably kept in touch with him somehow and started to plan what they wanted to do next.
  • King Hekaton contacted them via sending, letting them know that there was no time left, two of the scions were awakening now, the frost and fire scions. He and his giants would fight one of them, but it was up to them to face the other one.
  • Bedford shared this information with our heroes, and they headed off for a quick meeting with Hekaton before heading off to face the fire scion.
  • As they teleported to Ironmaster they saw the dwarven population running as geysers of lava could be seen in the distance.
  • Our heroes rushed in and saw a large creature that seemed to be made of hardened magma advancing along with 3 fire giants.
  • Our heroes engaged in combat, the giants were much more powerful than usual as our heroes split their focus between the 3 giants and the scion.
  • Antkeep cast fly on her companions to help them get across the large fissure in the ground separating the groups.
  • George was quickly knocked out by boulders and a fiery breath from the scion.
  • The scion kept using its fire breath over and over, as if the gods themselves had blessed it.
  • Our heroes continued the fight, killing the giants as George was struggling just to remain conscious, the only thing that kept him alive was Antkeep’s healing.
  • Our heroes could see they were close to defeating the scion, but Ivar kept insisting this wasn’t the scion. As they struck the finishing blow the magma creature shattered and in its place stood a huge fire giant, the scion itself, so far the fight had only been against its cradle.
  • As the real scion unleashed waves of fire Antkeep’s contraction broke as a wave of magma flooded around her, hardening and keeping her in place. She turned into a T-rex but the heat caused her to lose concentration as she was knocked out. Luckily, she was able to come back in a flash of light, as she struck with her dagger, the scion’s fate had changed.
  • Our heroes continued the fight and managed to defeat it, somehow suffering no casualties.
