Abomination Vaults Session 19 Recap: Traps, Bones, and Hidden Threats

Our heroes faced a daunting challenge, spending significant time working to dismantle a deadly trap. With Dreg and Bags in the hallway, they managed to disable one of the blades. Asterion found some glue in another room and used it to immobilize one blade. Torren’s attacks and spells had little effect, so the group resorted to a methodical heal-and-disable approach until all seven blades were neutralized.

Their exploration continued, leading them to a hidden passage into a bone-filled room. The bones assembled into a large warrior, but our heroes swiftly defeated it, noticing a glowing magic circle on the ground. Pressing on, they encountered a black ooze that attempted to dissolve them. Dreg’s quick thinking and use of a fireball bead incinerated the creature.

In a room with a balcony, they opted to retreat after a quick look, returning the way they came. They found a couch hiding a door which was  bolted shut and a fireplace, as well as discovering a hidden room with a teleportation circle. The next room was filled with white spores, which Torren quickly burned away.

Returning to and opening the sealed door, they met Chafkhem, a mummy-like creature wrapped in parchments instead of bandages. He revealed he had been imprisoned by a Seuthagi named Jafaki and offered a copy of his spellbook if our heroes brought him Jafaki’s head.

Their journey led them to a weapon rack with a dark crystal hatchet. As Dreg reached for it, the rack and a door transformed into mimics, sticking to them like glue. After a struggle, our heroes managed to free themselves, ready to face whatever came next in the Abomination Vaults.
