Abomination Vaults Session 22 Recap: Battle of the Bands and Fleshwarping

Our heroes began their journey by returning to the surface. On their way, they passed through the arena, where Torren cast See the Unseen, revealing the little invisible being they had encountered previously. It turned out to be a devil associated with the small crew they had found. The devil, unsure of who they were, communicated telepathically with Torren. However, Torren responded out loud, causing his companions to worry about his sanity. The devil warned our heroes of a strange tentacle creature.

After spending a couple of days on the surface getting their items in order and crafting, our heroes decided to return to the vaults. The first thing they did upon returning was head to Jafaki’s room. Realizing the door was locked, they knocked, and the door opened to reveal a strange humanoid with the body of a spider and the torso of an elf, with a head that was a mixture of the two.

The group explained that they had come seeking fleshwarping from the great Jafaki. After a short conversation, Torren volunteered to be experimented on. The door was locked once again, leaving our heroes unable to get in and unsure of what was happening with Torren.

They continued their exploration to find more keys and came across a destrachan, a strange lizard creature capable of destroying using sound. They also saw another seuthagi taking notes behind a see-through wall. After defeating the creature, they turned around and continued their exploration.

Eventually, the heroes arrived at a tavern where they encountered a number of morlocks and another drider. The drider, who was the bouncer, unenthusiastically spoke with our heroes while trying to hide a book filled with poorly drawn erotica. She showed no interest in Thumper and his only two legs. Thumper quickly left to see if Jafaki could fleshwarp him and give him additional legs.

While the rest of the group continued the conversation, they learned about the local band, Shadow Malice. The people in the tavern began shouting for Shadow Malice to come out, and the four-member band emerged. Seeing a new group, they challenged our heroes to a battle of the bands. Dreg sent Dexter to fetch their resident musician, Thumper.

Thumper returned with Dexter and a somewhat injured Torren, who now had harder skin. The group agreed to a battle of the bands, starting with individual competitions where each member could pair up one-on-one and perform however they liked, ending with each group performing a song. Thumper sang, Torren and Asterion showed off their physical prowess, and Bags used her circus skills to juggle. Each of our heroes won their one-on-one battles, and Thumper shined in the final performance, winning everything for his group and even impressing the drider Lallizanx.

Thumper took this opportunity to head off with Lallizanx, while the rest of the group decided to explore further. They found a set of stairs leading up and encountered a pair of poltergeists at the top. The poltergeists, mumbling about not being able to escape, started throwing things at our heroes. Our heroes opened some doors, allowing the poltergeists to leave.

Examining the room, our heroes found a mysterious ring but were unable to identify it. Returning back up, they rejoined Thumper, who, to Asterion’s chagrin, went to get experimented on by Jafaki and added four more legs to himself.
