Abomination Vaults Session 39 Recap: Alliances and Abyssal Battles

After returning to Otari for a brief respite, our heroes tracked down Yinyasmere and secured the chuul eggs, grateful that she had not yet found a buyer. With their task complete, they ventured back into the vaults and reunited with the caligni, presenting the eggs to Dulac alongside proof of the slain wisps. True to her word, she led them through a secret passageway—one they had completely overlooked in their previous explorations.

Beyond the passage, the heroes discovered another group of caligni, far friendlier than those they had encountered before. In time, they were introduced to Galudu, the leader of this second faction. She shared the tragic history of her people, recounting their flight from a catastrophe deep within the Darklands. Many perished along the way, and those who survived split into two factions: one following Urthagul, led by Dulac (now nearly eradicated thanks to the heroes), and the other, led by herself, hoping to escape entirely. However, their exit was blocked by two formidable foes—a mighty dragon and a fearsome daemon. If the heroes could defeat just one of these creatures and clear a path, Galudu would be eternally grateful.

Determined to aid their new allies, the heroes set off—only to be ambushed by four horned daemons. Though ferocious, the creatures were swiftly dispatched. Seeking a moment to heal, the heroes withdrew, but Urdefhans lurked in the shadows, launching another surprise attack. Despite their aggression, they too fell swiftly before the party’s might.

Pushing forward, the heroes finally found their target—a multilimbed daemon, waiting in the depths. The battle was brutal, as the creature’s onslaught left the party dazed and confused, striking friend and foe alike. Even Dreg, caught in its spell, accidentally struck Torren, yet the shield of the spirits proved invaluable—immediately snapping him out of his trance and allowing the group to regain control of the fight. With teamwork and sheer determination, they emerged victorious, taking one step closer to opening a path for Galudu’s people.

With the daemon defeated but the dragon still unchallenged, the heroes now stand at a crossroads. The way forward is clearer—but the dangers ahead remain unknown.
