As we return to the world, the fight between the yakfolk and our heroes continues. With Mitsui’s quick stuns, they quickly killed the chief and his two wives. They took some time to look around the house and wait to see if anyone else would come, but nothing happened. Trying to wake up the slaves, Mitsui accidentally killed one of them. Zesh revived her using Revivify and a diamond. The group met back up, Seraphina explaining what she had learned from the halflings in the field. That they had become slaves after eating the food provided by the yakfolk, falling asleep, and waking up as slaves. The group then decided to take a long rest and take out the remainder of the yakfolk in the morning. They planned to have Mitsui walk up to the one in the fields to the north as the rest of the group went to the houses to kill the various yakfolk.
In the morning, Mitsui approached the yakfolk in the north, naked, pretending to be a slave. She tried to persuade him that she was a slave sent by chief Kartha-Kaya to do work and was asking what she should do. The yakfolk was suspicious and told Mitsui to just help out before heading south. Once his back was turned, Mitsui hit him and stunned him. The two exchanged a few blows, but MItsui managed to take him out.
During this time, the rest of the party started to take out the yakfolk in the first hut. They easily managed to kill them when they stealthed in. Thanks to Seraphina’s Pass Without a Trace and the grace of the gods, even Zesh managed to stay quiet. After taking out a couple of huts, Mitsui rejoined the party, and they continued stealth tactics. When they messed up and were noticed, fights were a bit more difficult, as these creatures hit hard.
They also freed all the slaves as they were going along; one slave asked if they were being freed. Corvix replied, “No, they were taking over.” When Seraphina corrected him and told the slave, yes they were freeing them, Corvix mentioned he was just telling a joke. The slave then gave them a gem he had been hiding.
After saving one side of the town, Corvix stayed with the slaves in the chief’s hut as the others headed to the other side. Once again, they started saving slaves but had remembered that the elf slaves had mentioned the night before that the yakfolk had the ability to possess a body through a special ceremony. They were a bit more cautious and scared of the slaves they had just freed. The slaves then tried to escape, scared by our heroes’ suspicions and distrust, but our heroes caught them and told them to stay put.
They then went into a second hut, which had a smaller, child yakfolk in it, which Seraphina brutally murdered not realizing it was just a child. Our heroes then started attacking the mother, with Mitsui getting the last hit and knocking her out. Zesh then revived the child using another Revivify spell and another diamond. Mitsui then used her mimicry skills to convince the child that she was chief Kartha-Kaya, possessing the body, and they were just doing a drill. Kida held her and took care of the child, and Zesh was introduced as another of Kartha-Kaya’s wives. Our remaining heroes managed to take care of the last couple of yakfolk through intimidation alone, making them surrender. Thus our heroes realized some of the slaves might have actually been yakfolk in disguise and, being guarded only by Corvix, were anxious to get back to him. However, the world came to a close waiting to see what would happen next.
