Storm King’s Thunder Session 40 Recap

As time resumed, our heroes arrived in Yartar. Mitsui had sent a message to the Waterbaron Nestra asking for permission to board the ship. She received a response back indicating that Nestra had no authority over this.

Looking through town and asking around, our heroes learned that the ship was a good paying job that hired people every evening to take care of the ship. There were a variety of positions open, such as rowers, entertainers, and chefs. Many rich people got on the ship as well as gamblers.

Our heroes debated how to get on the ship. Some thought of being a ruse as a rich person, others thought instead of getting on as staff. Our heroes spent the day preparing. Mitsui bought some nice clothes for herself and her companions. Seraphina got ready with some drums. Mitsui spent the day at the docks and approached the captain of the ship. Showing off money and giving him some, she was told to come tonight and get on the ship.

That evening, Seraphina approached to get a job. Asking what she was interested in, she mentioned she wanted to play the drums for them. The captain indicated normally there was singing, but after some persuading he agreed to it. He did however ask her to empty her Bag of Holding. Upon emptying and discovering various weapons, she was told to leave them behind or she couldn’t get on. Unwilling to leave everything, Seraphina left, turning into a bat, and landed on Zesh’s shoulder.

The rest of the group lined up to get on board the ship. Upon seeing Mitsui, the captain gave her a nod. The others were waiting in line when Mitsui saw someone she recognized. She told the party to go on without her. She approached the man, Assane, and the two headed to a dark alley. Seraphina saw this, and after some debate, stayed on Zesh’s shoulder, trusting that the bird could take care of herself.

Assane smiled, turned to Mitsui and told her to grovel. Mitsui knew what she had to do. Taking her sword out, she cut his head off before heading to The Hand, a tavern in Yartar, to take care of the rest of the Zhentarhim, who used it as a base of operations. She didn’t tell her former companions where she went or what she was going to do, trusting that they could continue the mission without her, while she made the world safe for them.

And with her exit, the world faded to black.
