As our heroes left the ship and cashed in their golden goose coins, they tried to decide what to do. Our heroes went to the Waterbaron Tavern. They thought about the possibility of scrying on either Captain Storn or Lord Drylund. Alas, having never used the spell before, poor Zesh did not have the necessary components. In the tavern, Zesh sat next to a man at the bar who was nursing his drink. She made some small talk with him. He lamented about not having money and not being able to work aboard the Grand Dame. Zesh made small talk with George but really just annoyed him until he got up and left.
Kida sat down with a group of young men and made conversation with them. The group took a liking to her and she to them. They were a bunch of sailors who were docked in the city over the next few days. They worked for a transport ship. Tao eventually joined and made quick friends as well, the group even suggested she get a job with the crew.
Seraphina and Zesh headed out to look for a spell focus for her spells. They stopped by a fancy jewelry shop, however were disgusted by the treatment they received and left. Seraphina shot at the owner before leaving. They ended up thinking of having a special shield made with a reflective surface. They found an armorer who was willing to do the work to their specifications. They even paid a few extra gold for a rush job.
Our heroes eventually made it to another tavern, the Reflecting Moon, while looking for additional information on Drylund and Storn. Tao got some Dragon’s Milk and quickly got drunk off it. Zesh was heart broken when she saw the price of the drinks and asked for a glass of water, praying that it would be free. They learned Drylund did show on occasion, but did not learn much else. They eventually heard some commotion outside. Going out to see what was happening, they saw guards running towards some black smoke. Our heroes ran in that direction as well.
Upon arriving, they found the Hand was on fire. Seraphina used sleet storm to put the fire about, but they then saw a group of demons amongst a group of charred and/or slashed corpses. Our heroes killed the demons as they disappeared in a puff of purple smoke. After killing the demons our heroes looked for any survivors. The only one they found was Aresene, who was barely conscious. He only recalled fire appearing out of nowhere as people started to get slashed, he was unsure of the exact details.
Our heroes were asked by the guards to come with them as they were investigating what happened. Although our heroes went and were questioned, they were unable to provide much information. They then headed back to the inn for a night’s rest. Thus the world came to a slumber once more.
