Having reconciled after their previous battles, our heroes turned their attention to the mysterious barrier. As expected, it had vanished, opening the way deeper into the vaults. Eager to uncover what lay below, they discovered an unusual elevator with four levers. Asterion managed to get it functioning, transporting the party to an eerie subterranean level.
Here, they encountered a vast lake shrouded in dark mist, obscuring their vision. Before they could fully assess their surroundings, they were ambushed by gnomish, mummy-like creatures. The battle was intense, with the heroes struggling to breathe in the unnatural air, but they ultimately triumphed over their assailants.
Opting to ignore some of the caged creatures they passed, the group stumbled upon a small living space, deciding to rest for the night before venturing further. The next day, their exploration led them to another mummy gnome, this one with a gem-filled skull. It boldly declared its intent to devour their souls on its path to demilichdom. However, despite its grand proclamation, it posed little threat and was swiftly dealt with.
Further into the dungeon, they found more imprisoned creatures and debated freeing a crocodile-like being but ultimately left it be. However, a pleading chu’ulothis convinced them to grant it freedom, and they obliged.
Continuing their journey, Asterion boldly forced his way into a room marked “Keep Out.” Within, a strange stalactite lashed out, striking the group with unnerving reach. Though weakened, the heroes endured the assault and pressed on. To test the treacherous waters of the lake, Thumper activated his enchanted dog statue, sending it ahead. Seeing the statue return safely, the group prepared to cross—only to be attacked once more by another wave of mummies, this time in the middle of the murky waters.
With dangers lurking beneath the mist and mysteries waiting to be unraveled, the heroes brace themselves for what lies ahead in the depths of the Abomination Vaults.
