Curse of Strahd Session 3 Recap

  • The creatures chased after Zorrion, surprising the rest of the group. They managed to kill the creature however Zophir then became curious about the statue with the orb in the room. Touching the crystal orb it was holding caused a group of shadowy creatures to appear and kill Zophir, as his companions quickly ran away.
  • The group met a young man named Bophir, who claimed to be from Barovia. The man told the group that this house only appears when a new group of adventurers entered the land, so he thought he would come here to meet them. Although they were suspicious about him, as everything else in the house tried to kill them, they still agreed to work with him.
  • They came to a room with a dais in the middle, with a stone alter sitting on top of it. Upon looking into the room through a portcullis the chanting stopped. The group couldn’t open the portcullis but managed to find a secret door on the other side of the room.
  • When Bophir stepped onto the dais shadowy creatures appeared and started chanting one must die. The group decided to sacrifice the dog.
  • A baby appeared as the flesh of the dog slowly cocooned around the baby and form an abomination that vaguely resembled a newborn. The creature started crying and attacking the group, though they managed to kill it by killing the baby inside.
  • The group was then able to leave the house, the fog thinning outside as well.
  • The group found a letter written by Kolyan Indirovich, the burgomaster of the Village of Barovia.
  • The group headed to the village of Barovia. The village was mostly deserted, the only sound they could hear was some crying.
  • Going through the village the group came to a tavern called the Blood of the Vine, or possibly Blood on the Vine, depending on whether the scratched out word was the correct name. Going in they met a man named Ismark Indirovich. Learning the travelers had bested the death house, he gave them a bit of information on the land, and asked for their assistance in delivering his sister to a safer place. He offered to let them stay at his house. Most of the group took him up on the offer, but Valora, who was very angry with the bartender who seemed to ignore her, and Twink stayed at the tavern for the night.
  • On the way to Ismark’s the group planned to do a little shopping, but quickly learned they would not be able to afford much here as the prices of the items were much higher than anything they were used to.
  • At Ismark’s house, the group met his sister, Ireena. Ireena agreed to go with the group to Vallaki but only once her recently deceased was given a proper burial. The group agreed to help them the next day.
  • Ireena wanted to know the group could take care of her, and had a friendly duel with Zorrion, who easily won.
  • As the group began to get ready to rest they heard a knock on the door, the knock got steadily louder, and when no one answered the bordered up windows themselves all started rattling. Ismark opened the door and allowed Strahd to come in. Strahd had come to meet his new guests, introducing himself to them and appreciating their manners. He told them to go to the church for midnight to see something interesting.
