As they were returning to the palace, Sion noticed their old friend Evelyn, who had a traveling companion, a halfling named Miro with her. He snuck up on her and grappled her, she flayed around a bit trying to hit him, which just made him laugh. The group argued a bit, as they were wont to do, before heading back to the king. Evelyn told him she had learned of points of power in the continents, which should be able to protect the lands. She wondered if something was amiss with this continent’s point of power, in the forest east of Metades. Having noticed a giant tree in the area, she wanted to approach but the are was swarming with undead, so she returned to Reino to get some troops.
The king said they could not spare much of anyone at this time. Evenlyn suggested the prisoners, and after some deliberation, the king agreed she could talk to them to convince them. As they were talking an alarm was sounded, the king rushed out with Miro, Sion, Zuko and Fang following. Evely stayed behind to talk to the prisoners, and Christmas had disappeared to who knows where. As they exited the castle our warriors saw blue lizard like creatures attacking the town. They decided to rush one, but were shocked when they saw a second one appear. Sion took a couple blows from them, but was confident he could fight on.
All of a sudden, he noticed Zuko turned to stone. Still, he fought, as he saw arrow after arrow shoot by and miss he wondered what Miro was doing. Fang was using his magic to try and fight. Outnumbered 2 to 1, the creatures, later identified as Basilisks, took Sion down. The party called for Evelyn’s help, and some guards took off to look for her. They then made Fang their next target, but the first one fell, as the second managed to turn Fang to stone as well. Finally, Miro got some good shots in and killed the remaining Basilisk. Panicked and rushing through his recollection, he remembered a Basilisk’s blood could undo the petrification, and coated both Fang and Zuko with blood, undoing the petrification. Sadly, upon examining Sion’s body, they realized he was dead.
Evelyn came to the group asking what she was needed for, as she saw the dead Basilisks. Annoyed that they wasted her time they headed back inside to talk with the prisoners. She managed to convince thirty of them to come with the group to attack the undead. Over the next few days they did some preparations, getting some holy water and some equipment to fight the undead. They then headed off with their small army of prisoners.
About a day away from the forest, our heroes noticed a gigantic ape approaching the party. Evelyn headed off to try and distract it, shooting some magic missiles at it and hoping to draw it away from the group. While the first shot didn’t work, the second one did. As the ape then approached her it slammed its fists into her, killing her, and then eating her.
