Upon the revitalization of our heroes, Xeric and Seraphina returned to the group. Discussing what they had learned with the group, they all decided the two should spend a bit more time spying before reconvening later. Xeric and Seraphina headed off once more and started spying on the giant and the troll, who had now started digging a hole. Upon approaching, the troll spotted the duo and pointed in their direction.
Seraphina climbed up a tree to spy and hide as Xeric hid a bit further away. The troll then ducked down in the hole, so that Xeric could no longer see it. He decided to sneak closer to see what was going on. Once Xeric was within reach, the giant swung around and hit Xeric with her giant sword. This really hurt, causing Xeric to retreat, and Seraphina started shooting arrows to cover his retreat.
The giant told the troll to take care of the one up in the tree as it chased after Xeric. The troll started to hack away at the tree Seraphina had climbed up. Seraphina used Rope Trick in order to give herself a safe little hidey hole from which she could shoot from. She used some old clothes and made a fire. Lighting her arrows on fire, as she shot down at the troll. The troll then ran for cover behind trees. Seraphina kept on shooting flaming arrows and lighting the surrounding trees on fire.
Xeric, aware that Seraphina was still behind him, decided he would use a smokescreen to turn back around. He threw a “potion x” at the ground and lit some grass on fire. As it caused some smoke to blind the giant, he dashed back past it heading towards Seraphina. The giant barely noticed Xeric but saw just enough to throw a large rock at him, knocking him out. She then went to the hole she was digging. She saw some smoke in the air and arrows shooting out, with the occasional head appearing. She started getting large rocks ready and tossing them as the head popped out. There was a bit of a stand off as Seraphina took a couple hits and knew she couldn’t safely poke her head out again.
Meanwhile, as our heroes saw the smoke from a distance, Mitsui, Hark, and Kida started rushing towards the smoke. Mitsu, being the fastest, arrived first. She saw an unconscious Xeric, as well as smoke up in the air, and confidently thought she could handle the giant and the troll on her own. The troll yelled out in Giant that there was another one, meaning Mitsui. Hearing this, Seraphina decided to pop her head out again, taking another shot, hoping that Kida had come to help out. The giant however tossed one last rock, knocking Seraphina unconscious 80 feet up in the air.
Mitsui wanted to tame the troll, talking to it and presenting food. The troll, however, didn’t respond to Mitsui attempts at befriending it but did eat the small rabbit she shoved in its mouth before hitting Mitsui a couple times. Feeling the pain, Mitsui started running away, staying just out of reach and circling back around to the main site a couple times, waiting for Kida and Hark to show up. Hark saw Mitsui leading the troll and giant away and continued in the direction of the fires; so Kida did as well. Upon arriving at the dig site, Hark fed Xeric a potion of healing. Seeing the fire up in the air, Xeric figured Seraphina was in there, and as her head never popped out, figured something was wrong. He climbed a nearby tree and prepared himself to catch her when the spell ended..
Mitsui came back shortly after, as Hark hid in the hole. The troll was right on Mitsui’s tail. As Kida saw the troll, she grabbed it and pushed it into the burning tree. While the troll tried to get free, after a couple failed attempts, it decided to try and kill Kida instead. The two began exchanging blows, and Hark threw a couple javelins while waiting for the fire giant with Mitsui. Once the fire giant arrived, Hark lept out and engaged the fire giant. Alas, what could a lowly goblin do against a fire giant? Hark was wiped out in two quick swings, but it was long enough for Kida to finish off the troll and Mitsui to keep playing keep away. Having already been injured by the troll, the giant made quick work of Kida and started chasing MItsui once again, really wanting to finish off this pesky bird. Mitsui barely missed being fatally hit as the giant tore down a burning tree and went to throw it, but, luckily, it disintegrated before it hit Mitsui. MItsui was mad now. How dare it take out all her allies and throw a tree at her? She shot it, and her aim was true. Bleeding and hurting, the giant decided that she had enough and started to retreat, but MItsui, like with the Zhentarim thugs, chased after and finally killed her.
As Seraphina’s Rope Trick ended, she started to fall, and Xeric skillfully leaped, seeming to almost fly through the air, catching her before she could hit the ground, taking the impact himself and going unconscious with her safely in his arms. Mitsui gave Xeric a healing potion and, as everyone was stabilized, tried eating the troll heart but found it not as appetizing as the ones from the night before, and then checked out the dead giant. She took its large magical adamantium staff to use as a walking stick and then cut off its head.
About an hour later, the unconscious members came to. Everyone was hurting, and Seraphina healed Kida a bit so she could hitch a ride. They made it back to Calling Horns, completely exhausted. There, Tamalin had people tend their wounds and prepare a feast for them. Upon hearing what happened, she told them she would investigate the digsite. The party ate, celebrated being alive, and then went to sleep. In the morning, before leaving, Mitsui attached the giant’s head to their cart. Freshly restocked on horse feed, they headed off to Noanar’s Hold. It was an uneventful journey, and the party arrived at nightfall, as the world itself went to sleep.
