Storm King’s Thunder Session 14 Recap

Time resumed for our heroes as they enjoyed their time in Everlund. Xeric did some looking around and managed to find a Bag of Holding and a Heward’s Handy Haversack. He kept the Haversack but gave the Bag of Holding and his own Bag of Holding to the party. They put one on the wagon and gave the other to Jayr. They then headed out towards Silverymoon.

Upon arriving at the beautiful town of Silverymoon, our heroes headed towards the inn. Upon seeing the outrageous prices, our heroes did their usual and split up. Some slept outside, a couple did get rooms, and Seraphina slept with the horses. The next day, they each did their own stuff. Several of them ended up at the library. Xeric was researching cursed items and their last known locations. Seraphina was looking up more information on the giants and the Ordning. Mitsui used her magic rod to find the rest of the page about the spirit mounts she had recently learned of. The heroes reunited after having each done their own individual things and decided to head out midday rather than spend another night in this expensive city.

As they were leaving to head to Zymorven Hall, Jayr went and spoke with a couple of men whom he had seen multiple times throughout the day. He asked them why they were following him?. They told him they had not been following him. Jayr was satisfied with that and turned around and left. The men also turned around and headed back into town.

As our heroes were travelling down the road, they spotted 4 blueish humanoid creatures off in the distance fighting each other. After comparing them to the trees on the side of the road and determining the distance, they determined these were giants. Mitsui immediately charged towards the giants. Approaching them she saw 3 of the giants were ganging up on the fourth one, Harshnag. Mitsui decided to help the single one, thinking it would be easier to kill the remaining giant after. Just as she readied an arrow, the first of the 3 giants was killed. She then let her arrow fly against one of the 2 remaining ones. Harshnag told her there was nothing to worry about as he would assist her. She and the lone giant then proceeded to defeat the second one and started on the third one, as Harshnag was getting bloodied.

The final enemy giant got tired of Mitsui’s hindrance and attacked her, knocking her out. Harshnag quickly picked her up and rushed her to where he had noticed the rest of the party, who had just been observing the fight. At this point, all but Jayr rushed to the two’s aid. As the giant met the heroes, he laid Mitsui at their feet before turning back around to face the other giant. Seraphina healed Mitsui with Mitsui’s own potion, and she quickly got up to start fighting again. Seraphina then took a shot on the remaining giant and killed it.

While the fight should have been over, Mitsui still saw one giant left and wanted to take this one out as well. Seraphina had to tackle Mitsui and tell her this was a good giant, even though Mitsui insisted that it was a bad giant. The party then looted the fallen giants and obtained some gold, as well as a goat. Mitsui cut off a frost giant head and tied it to their wagon as well.

Harshnag, a bit wary of Mitsui, introduced himself to the group. Xeric seemed quite genuine in his greeting. Harshnag talked with the heroes about the Ordning. When the heroes questioned him about why killing and harming people would put giants at the top of a new order, Harshnag explained that that wasn’t their intention. He likened our heroes killing a mosquito to how many giants see killing small folk, inconsequential. The various giant tribes each have their own ideas and are trying to get it done. Harshnag wants to simply restore things to how they were. He has an idea that involves the Eye of the All-Father, a temple built by his ancestors in the Spine of the World. A divine Oracle can be located within the temple, and he hopes it can guide him on how to end all of the chaos that is going on. Harshnag is looking for some strong people to join him on the journey.

Most of the party agreed to this, Xeric was not willing to do this for free. Harshnag said he could probably talk to the lords in Neverwinter in order to obtain some form of payment. Seraphina asked Harshnag if he would be willing to pick her up and put her on his shoulder, which he did. She was amazed by the sight and how high up she was. Harshnag agreed to travel with our heroes and camp for the night but then head out for Neverwinter the next day. As they were travelling along, he and Seraphina were discussing the Ordning in Giant.

When it was time to settle down for the night, Harshnag cut down some trees to make a “small” fire. Of course, this fire was larger than our heroes would ever make. Once he laid down for the night, Mitsui decided to try and steal from the giant, wondering what he might have. She started to look in the bag, but was, however, easily noticed by Harshang. He lifted her up in one hand and asked her what she was doing. He was disappointed that she was trying to steal from him, as they were allies. When asking the rest of the party what to do, they told Harshnag to throw her. They figured that since she had the ability to Slow Fall, she would be fine.

Harshnag stood up, and winding up, threw Mitsui. She flew head first into a tree, knocking her unconscious. Our heroes just watched her as she lay there bleeding, wondering if she would finally learn her lesson. A few seconds later though, Mitsui coughed up some blood and came to, jumping to her feet. Realizing that no one had helped her, she decided to go off and sulk behind the tree. The party then rested for the night.

The next day, Harsnag left for Neverwinter, heading off the main road. Our heroes continued towards their destination, Zymorven Hall. As they were travelling, they saw what looked like a small, 5 foot, brightly coloured inverted pyramid off in the distance. They halted, and Seraphina used her Beast Sense on Lola, who had been trained to scout. She saw it was a man, floating in mid air. His face was covered with a mask, half black, half white, with yellow closed eyes and a yellow closed mouth. Upon relaying this information to the group, they decided on the following: Xeric and Seraphina would stealth along, as Kida and Jayr, who finally seemed to be finished brooding, would walk up to him. As the party was nearing the man, Mitsui shot an arrow at the stranger, and while it struck him, he did not seem overly concerned about it.

The man asked our heroes why they would do such a thing; he meant them no harm. Seraphina and Xeric then came out of hiding. He smiled, and introduced himself as a travelling merchant, Pietro. Oddly, the eyes on the mask and the mouth on the mask moved, smiling as he smiled, talking as he talked, etc. He invited them into his shop, pointing to his wagon. Jayr stepped in first, disappearing. Inside was a large room filled to the brim with semi-transparent servants and magical items. Jayr stepped back out and suggested the rest come in. As Seraphina was going in, she looked back and told Mitsui not to eat her goat.

Our heroes did some shopping, using up some of the party funds as necessary. They asked if they could get a Sending Stone in order to communicate with Pietro if they ever needed to return. He thought this was a wonderful idea and gave one to our heroes.

Upon heading out, they saw Mitsui eating the goat. Mitsui, seeing some of the cool items our heroes had purchased,  rushed in to buy some things as well. Seraphina gave Kida and Hark each a Clockwork Amulet she had bought, along with one for herself. She had also bought one for Mitsui, but seeing how Mitsui had eaten her goat, she was disappointed and did not give it to her.

Thus, time slowed as our heroes finished a day of shopping, giving them a break before they had an opportunity to use their new toys.
