Storm King’s Thunder Session 17 Recap

Time resumed as our heroes gathered up to head to Neverwinter. They invited Jackal to use the secret Harper Teleportation Circle Network. The attendant had a word with Mitsui, asking her if she knew the meaning of secret. Still, it didn’t take long for everyone to make it to Neverwinter.

Once there the party quickly met with Lord Daerivoss. He thanked MItsui for her information, as what she told him was sadly true, and he could not pass on his shipping company to his son, who showed a lack of morals and character. He said he was looking for a new heir and offered to take Mitsui under his wing, having her take over when he passed.

Our heroes were flabbergasted upon hearing this. This was a bird brain idiot; there’s no way she could run a company. They would go bankrupt. They tried other recommendations, but Lord Daerivoss simply said MItsui could speak for herself and didn’t listen to her companions. Mitsui said she would take over but needed to save the world first. After further discussion, it was agreed that since they were waiting for Harshnag, Mitsui would spend some time learning the business with Lord Daerivoss.

Mitsui spent the next few days learning all about business: shipping, packing, determining prices, negotiating, etc. Although she found it boring, she also picked everything up rather quickly and easily. The rest of our heroes spent their time in the city learning about it and researching information. When Harshang arrived outside town, there was a commotion amongst the townspeople, as they were worried about a giant attack. Seraphina went out and, upon noticing it was Harshnag, talked to him and informed him she’d gather the rest of the people. They then headed off towards Waterdeep together.

Along their way, they noticed some Stone Giants destroying the ruins of a keep. Harshnag proposed taking care of them, as it would potentially save lives down the road. Our heroes then went and engaged in combat. Kida’s new Giant Slayer Greataxe did a lot of damage to them, too much damage for their liking. They kept on picking the poor half-orc up and throwing her away. Mitsui was knocked unconscious. When she came too, she was angry and tried to scare the giants but only managed to scare one of them. Harshang was asking our heroes to hurry up and finish them off as he was taking a bit of a beating from them. Finally, our heroes emerged victorious and headed back on the road.

As they approached the small village of Leilon, Harshang told our heroes he would meet them on the other side, as small folk were often scared of him. Our heroes agreed, and said they would resupply and spend the night. Mysteriously, in the middle of the night, the inn caught on fire. Seraphina rushed to grab a blanket and put it out. It looked as though some drunkard had just spilled his drink and pipe, so our heroes went back to bed. Later, a second, much larger fire, erupted in the inn. The inn’s alcohol store had caught fire, and it was too large to be put out. Seraphina and Kida got the townspeople to get ready to put out any stray embers, while Xeric rushed to Harshang, asking for help. Harshnag said he couldn’t do anything and would probably just make things worse. Xeric insisted he could dig up the earth and use it to extinguish the fire, but Harshang insisted he would be of no help. Mitsui, on the other hand, was keeping a lookout for any suspicious people.

After the inn finished burning down, Kida, Seraphina, and Xeric left town to camp out with Harshnag. Mitsui paid someone to sleep in their house, sleeping by the door. As nothing else happened, our heroes left the next day.

A few days later, their travels brought them to Thornhold, a small dwarven town. While the heroes were invited in, the townsfolk didn’t divulge much information. Seraphina and Kida offered some booze they had brought to the townsfolk. They gladly accepted and started drinking and having a good time. As Mitsui explored the town, she noticed Zhentarhim symbols everywhere. Most had weathered away or been scratched away, leaving them barely visible. Mitsui then left the town.

After a bit more time in town, Xeric grew bored and left town as well. He talked a bit with Mitsui before returning and getting Seraphina and Kida, letting them know they had to leave. Once out, they were informed there may be some unfavorable people in town, and they should hit the road. Thus, time came to a standstill once more, as our heroes were back on their way to Waterdeep, watching their backs to make sure no one was coming after them.
