Storm King’s Thunder Session 23 Recap

As life returned to the world, our heroes’ favorite tiefling rushed in to return life to his teammates. Having some diamonds left that Mitsui had provided him,he quickly cast Revivify on both Seraphina and Kida. Much like what had just happened with Xeric before, life rushed back into both Seraphina and Kida’s bodies. They awoke, and some of our heroes realized just how dangerous the world was, while a few thought themselves invincible (so long as they had healing potions and spells) . They decided to take a short break to tend to their wounds, after which they finished looking through this giant room and found the axe they were looking for.

Returning to the main room with the statues, they decided to have Harshnag once again touch a rune with a weapon. Thinking that they needed to touch the weapons to the runes in order of importance, they started with Hill and worked their way across, dealing with the consequences as they came. The hill rune caused confusion, while the stone rune summoned earth elementals.

It turned out that touching Thrym’s axe to the Ise rune was the true key. Immediately, the misty archway started to thunder and lightning formed with it. Our heroes slowly approached it, and one by one were teleported through to another room. Within the room were another 6 statues, each holding a large iron lantern. Each statue represented one of the giant races, and a faint light radiated from the lanterns. Our heroes saw a large, frozen giant corpse on the ground, holding an opal with a rune on it.

As Mitsui approached the giant corpse, she noticed a giant rune on the floor. Getting closer to the corpse, the ghost of the dead giant appeared. The spirit introduced itself as Eigeron. He was a cloud giant who was killed by his father, Blagothkus. He explained that he and his father were told by the oracle of an upheaval coming to giant society. When Blagothkus asked how he could impress the gods, he was told he would never be able to. The oracle then told Eigeron he should step out of his father’s shadow. This displeased Blagothkus, and he and his son got into a fight, with Blagothkus killing Eigeron. Eigeron explained to the heroes that they could ask up to 6 questions and would then have to wait until the next day if they wished to ask more.

Stepping on the rune in the floor, Mitsui started asking questions. She asked how they could save the world? The oracle responded by asking what she meant by saving the world. Mitsui clarified stopping the giants. She was told to find a magic conch of the storm giant king, Hekaton. Use it to visit Hekaton’s court. Root the evil therein. Our heroes then inquired about how to find the conch. They were told it was in the hands of a giant lord. Asking for more information on the giant lord, they were told they had to prove themselves by finding giant relics from when barbarian humans fought the giants. These relics could be found in special mounds. Harshnag informed the party he knew where these mounds could be found.

Our heroes then asked about Eigeron’s father, Blagothkus and where he could be found. They were told his shadow falls on Parnast. Finally, Mitsui asked if she would become the lord of Neverwinter, and she was told no.

Leaving the room, Harshnag told our heroes he would draw a map of the various mounds for them, although he would stay here and guard the oracle while they searched for the items.

Leaving the temple, our heroes saw a ship flying through the air, coming down towards them. A rope ladder was let down as a human waved to our heroes to come up. While some of our heroes were suspicious and had their bows drawn and pointed at the ship, others just climbed right on up.

Upon reaching the deck, they were greeted by 4 humans. The humans had come on behalf of Klauth, the Great Dragon of the North. Klauth offered both the ship and their services as a gift. Our heroes, although suspicious, accepted and headed to Mirabar.

The trip only took a single day on this wonderful flying machine. Mitsui paid attention and learned how the Airship functioned. It seemed to require 2 people to operate. She also found a fire elemental in use and talked to it.

After arriving in Mirabar, our heroes decided to do some shopping before returning to the ship for the night. While everyone was resting, Xeric started heading out but was noticed by Seraphina. Questioning him, he informed her he had to meet someone. Seraphina was rather insistent he didn’t go alone, and since Xeric’s acquaintance didn’t want anyone else there, she turned into a bat to accompany him. Once outside, Xeric turned invisible and dashed off at full speed, making it impossible for Seraphina to keep up or keep track of him. Upset, she rushed back to the ship and told the crew to take off immediately, towards Raven Rock, the first mound they planned to visit.

In the morning, Seraphina noticed that Xeric had left a note behind. The note indicated that while he wished them the best of luck, he would no longer be able to accompany them as their goal was not the same as his. Seraphina, shocked by this revelation, didn’t know how to handle it. She shared the news with her companions, and the world came to a rest as no one knew how to handle this shocking news.
