As time resumed, our heroes would question their captive as to the location of the tree. Although at first they didn’t remove the gag, they eventually did. After being asked, the shaman told them her name was Garua. She pointed when asked the location of the Grandfather Tree. Some of the party decided to follow, while a few waited around, having noticed Seraphina disappeared.
During this time, Seraphina had decided to transform into a bat and fly up above the trees. She noticed one very large tree off in the distance. Flying back down, she came to Kida and started flying in a figure 8 pattern. Kurd noticed this and thought he’d have a little snack. To his surprise, upon grabbing the bat, it turned into Seraphina.
The party now had to decide. Traven indicated the biggest tree might not be the Grandfather Tree, but Seraphina thought it was. Zeph cast Command on Garua, telling her to confess. At once, Garua said treant that way, pointing in the direction she directed our heroes. Traven once again indicated he thought a treant sounded more like a “Grandfather” tree than a giant tree, so they headed off in that direction.
During their first night, Traven noticed a group of elves pass by. He didn’t notify anyone though until the next day. In the morning, Zeph decided to prepare and cast Zone of Truth; alas it was unsuccessful on Garua. So they continued on some more, with Seraphina questioning Garua. Eventually, Garua slipped up and mentioned that “Tree Ghost protect Great Tree”. At this, Seraphina was sure the tree she had seen was the Grandfather Tree and convinced the party to head toward it instead. The journey back was uneventful, and they finally reached the Grandfather Tree.
The first thing the group noticed was a group of centaurs. Kurd started towards the large tree. Upon approaching, some dryads appeared from within the other trees surrounding the Grandfather Tree. They spoke in Elvish, and while most of the party could not understand them, Tao happened to speak Elvish. At first they asked about the giant relic, but the dryads knew nothing of it. Tao then asked what was special about the tree, and it was explained that although the tree was not awakened, anyone who slept beneath it would be freed of any curse. Tao explained they were cursed and asked if they could sleep beneath the tree and were given permission to do so.
Exploring the chambers created by the roots, Kurd found an electrum torc with giant runes in the innermost chamber. He brought it out. They decided this was most likely the item they sought and decided to spend the night anyways.
Traven showed interest in killing Garua but was forced by the others to let her go. Unhappy with this, he camped out away from the others. Not trusting him, the party agreed to take shifts, partially to watch Traven, and partially to watch for any other troubles. Seraphina took first watch and went to speak with Traven. They had a bit of a talk, about how Traven felt about enemies, and his own being. After talking, she went back and woke up Zesh for her shift. Zesh’s shift was uneventful, and she woke up Kurd for the third watch.
Kurd explored around on his watch. He came to the centaurs and noticed they smelled really bad. He tried using magic to make the smell go away, but it didn’t work. Thinking it must be a curse and the reason the centaurs were here, he decided to sleep next to them, forgetting to wake up Kida for her watch.
In the morning, Kurd’s new “friends” weren’t happy with him for not waking up Kida for her watch. They decided not to allow Kurd on watch alone again. They headed out north, hoping to find Stone Stand. Coming out of the forest, they noticed they were close to Everlund so went there.
As per usual, Tao went to a local tavern for some drinks. Kida and Seraphina went to Moongleam tower, so Seraphina could see the tressim. She was unfortunately laughed at when she told the people there that she would talk to them, and they would talk to her. One of the men showed her to a corner and told her the tressim were there. Not happy with the insult, Seraphina unleashed her secret technique she had been practicing on Jayr: a punch to the family jewels. They then left. Zesh tried to help out and make some money in the artisans’ guild but produced incredibly shoddy workmanship. Traven joined Tao at the bar, as Tao started gambling with some well off elves. Thus time came to a standstill, waiting for our heroes to adventure once again.
