As the world came to life once more, with our heroes realizing that they had lost their bird friend, Mitsui. They were shocked as, in the commotion and excitement of people getting on the ship, Zane grabbed his chest, falling over into the river and didn’t resurface. Not sure of what was going on, our heroes continued to advance in line. Upon arriving at the front of the line, Storm, captain of the ship, questioned our heroes. Having previously been introduced as mere servants, he wasn’t going to let them on board without MItsui. Kida tried the” look over there” tactic, pointing to a random place to try and distract the captain but failed. Zesh tried to talk but also had a lack of success. Tao then flashed some coin and the group was permitted on board.
Once on board, Seraphina found an area in the shadows and took on her hafling form once more. Our group exchanged some gold for some coins, having found a very grumpy looking woman who was in charge of this process. They gambled a few rounds before being greeted by a strange man with an octopus on his shoulder. The man introduced himself as Khaspere Drylund, owner of the ship. He encouraged our heroes to gamble and enjoy themselves. Happy to learn that the food and drink were free, they eventually decided to get a bite. Seraphina used this time to scope out the ship. She went down to the lower area through the stairs where she boarded the ship. Reaching the lower deck, she saw a curtain, and peaking through, she saw a bunch of rowers and then another curtain. She headed back up to the group, before heading down the stairs by the dining room. There she saw the curtain on the other side of the rowers, and three rooms. Two of these were the bathrooms and stunk to high heaven, and the third was where the food was stored.
Our heroes explored the ship a bit more and partook in some more gambling. Zesh seemed to have Lady Luck’s favor.
Our heroes tried to determine where the captain’s quarters were. While exploring, Zesh made friends with one of the sailors and talked a bit about the sea. Seraphina and Tao worked together to steal a key to Drylund’s room. Tao swiped the key, and Seraphina snuck off with it and entered the room. She found nothing regarding the Storm Giants. She did find a chest but upon picking it, was poisoned by a needle that shot out. Looking through the chest, she was annoyed as it had nothing but gold and gems and returned to the party feeling unwell.
Our heroes decided to try a different tact. Seraphina was going to take a nap, as she felt rather unwell as the others searched for more information on the captain. Kida ended up going to the lower areas and convinced the rowers she was there to give them breaks. Each time she sat down, she took on the work of two men, and had friendly conversation with them, learning small tidbits of information here and there about the captain.
In the end, our heroes decided the best course of action would be to follow these men, the captain and Drylund, as they left the ship and figure out what to do then. Thus the world once again came to a slumber, awaiting a new breath of life.
