Storm King’s Thunder Session 5 Recap

Our heroes awoke and headed downstairs for some breakfast. During this time, Morak approached them. He told them he was very thankful for what they had done, and, if it wasn’t too much to ask, he was wondering if the adventurer’s might be willing to deliver a letter to Aleastra Ulgar. Her ex-husband was one of the ones who had passed away in the cave, having been eaten by the giant rats. The party could find Alaestra in Triboar, running the Lionshield Coster general store. The party agreed to do this, but Xeric had one additional request. He paid Morak, asking him to spread a rumour of a shady human with green eyes, travelling with a group of vigilante-like heroes.

Mitsui took the goblin leader, named Hark, aside, and somehow, convinced the creature to accompany the group. Xeric did not trust this vile creature and continues to be very suspicious of its motives for following the group, as well as what Mitsui did to convince it to come.

Shortly before leaving, a large tower, floating on clouds, appeared above the town. The tower had a large wizard hat on it. The townsfolk started to cower, expecting another giant attack. Unexpectedly, cloud steps came down from the tower, seeming to be an invitation. Some of our heroes decided to head up. Amon, the warforged, and Vorzal, the shifter monk chose not to follow; what happened to them is a story for another day.

Up in the tower, the adventurers met a cloud giant named Zephyros. He explained that giant society was in shambles. In ages past, the giants followed a strict hierarchy system, called The Ordening, which had been set by their gods. Without the good storm giants in power, all of the various giant races were fighting for supremacy, and to please their gods, hoping to become the new reigning class. This included some of the more evil giants, who were attacking the small folk. He has been regularly communing with Higher Powers in order to determine how to fix this issue, and thus he was led to our group of heroes. Upon relaying this information,  he was willing to take the heroes anywhere they wished to go. They chose Triboar; he agreed, and the tower took off. He told them they were free to make camp on his first floor, but not to go anywhere above. He also apologized for not having any small folk sized furniture.

Mitsui was unhappy about this and argued about wanting to go up over and over again whenever the giant left them. The giant simply insisted on not allowing her and would pick her up and remove her from the elevator whenever she got on.

Over the next few days, the giant would come down to check on his guests regularly. Once, Mitsui did manage to sneak on board the elevator and make it to the second floor. There, she saw a giant bed, a floating crystal, a large chest, and hundreds of giant books on a walled shelf. She tried popping one of the books out but had little success. She noticed that the top floor seemed to be a griffin aviary. When Zephyros noticed her, he scolded her and brought her back to the first floor. He warned if she did it again, he would use a spell on her.

Off in the distance, Xeric spotted a kettle of giant vultures coming their way. Upon further inspection, he noticed people riding them. As he starts to prepare for their arrival, the world fades, time once again slowing to a crawl, waiting for another renewal of energy.
