As the fog lifts and time returns to a normal flow, we find our heroes trying to decide where to spend the night in Triboar. Kida stayed at a campground; while Seraphina stayed at the local inn: the Northshield Inn. Mitsui decided to stay at the closed down inn, the Frost-Touched Frog, as some of the more superstitious folk talked about ghosts and other hauntings. This also caught Xeric’s attention. Hark, however, had no interest in spending the night at a haunted building. He told Mitsui he’d stay at the campground, with the other adventuring parties who were spending the night. Upon arriving, Hark got tons of dirty looks from these adventurers, and overheard murmurings about “who would allow a goblin here” and some even suggested they may be better off killing him. Hark felt hurt by this, as he had experienced nothing but kindness from Mitsui recently, and no longer felt comfortable staying at the campground. He decided he would spend the night with Mitsui at the abandoned inn after all.
In the morning, the heroes rejoined outside the Northshield Inn. They noticed fewer guards in town. When Xeric questioned them, he found out their elite members, The Twelve, were out dealing with some orc attacks on the roads to the south. Having known about the recent assassinations, Xeric was concerned about the orcs being nothing but a distraction. He gathered information as to the location of the Lord Protector of the town, Darathra Shendrel, and went to speak with her. He informed her of the assassination attempts on Hyuth. The whole town knew of these attacks, however, and weren’t overly concerned, as the gargoyles had been terrifying the townsfolk for amusement, and no one really liked the wizard. In the middle of offering protection at a cost, a large crashing noise came from outside. Cries of “Giants!” soon followed. Darathra rushed out of the tower to start organizing her people to safety, promising our heroes a reward if they assisted. They agreed.
Most of the townsfolk were escaping, but a few villagers decided to help; as did one brave adventurer who had been staying at the campgrounds. This adventurer was Jayr, a tiefling cleric of Lliira. He decided to rush towards the giant attack.
The invading army was composed of two giants, a group of orcs, half of which were riding axe beaks, and some magmin. The giants pointed towards a few buildings, and the magmin happily lit them on fire. The giants then rushed towards the center of town, to a campground, and started digging in the dirt with their longswords. After taking some significant damage, one of the giants decided to call a retreat.
The villagers who rushed to the defence of the town were the following:
First was Darz Helgar, the campground keeper. Death is something that was of no interest to him, yet he loved this town and the townspeople. He went through all the houses making sure everyone could escape safely.
Next came Narth Terzin, one of the co-proprietaires of the local Lionshield Coster. With his crossbow in hand, he started firing at the giants, although it’s unknown if he was doing it to help the town or to just impress Alaestra, his girlfriend and co-owner of the Lionshield Coster.
A local and gifted harness maker, Othovir used his fire magic to help out. Sadly this magic failed to harm the fire giants. Still, it proved effective against the orcs, until they started hitting back. Othovir took a strategic retreat to try and survive.
The blacksmith, Gherlryn, came from the north end of town. While not close to the action, he rushed in as fast as his short, dwarven legs would take him. He started one-on-one combat with an orc as soon as he could. The orc decided to flee when he realized he was close to death. A giant, however, commanded him to take care of the dwarf during their retreat. This resulted in the end of Gherlryn’s life. After the battle, Mitsui could have sworn she heard his ghost blame her for not keeping him safe.
The last brave villager was Urgala. Once her inn, The Northshield House where Seraphina had spent the night before, caught fire, Urgala came charging at the magmins. How dare they start burning her inn!? She came out swinging her morningstar and swiftly cleared anything in her path.
As for our heroes, Mitsui and Hark started killing the magmin that were burning up the town. When Mitsui saw a clear path, she ran off and started shooting at the digging giants in the campground, until an orc engaged her in one-on-one combat. Although she defeated it, she was eventually knocked out when she got in the way of a retreating fire giant. Luckily, Seraphina came to her assistance with a Cure Wounds spell once the battle was over. Before she left Mitsui, she said, “I healed you, so don’t eat my pony!”
Hark also started fighting with the orcs when they approached the inn, helping Urgala out.
Xeric was also helping with the magmins by the inn. When the orcs knocked him out, it was the lone adventurer, Jayr, who healed him. Hearing Urguala’s cries for a medic, he popped his head around a building and cast Healing Word at our rogue.
Seraphina spent her time during the battle shooting one of the fire giants in the face with arrows. Half her shots missed, but she was adamant about getting their attention. When she realized they seemed to be looking for something, she tried to reason with them, but these giants seemed to ignore her completely, until those arrows really started to hurt. As the giants were escaping, she saw Mitsui go down. She rushed to her aid and healed her.
Kida, meanwhile, was assisting the villagers in getting out of town.
The newest hero to join the party, Jayr, was using his Spiritual Weapon to try and damage the giants. He was also using his Toll the Dead spell repeatedly, but this must have been a new spell he’d just learned, (or hadn’t mastered yet) as it didn’t hit a single time. Still, when he heard someone yell “Medic,” he rushed over to help and used Healing Word to help out a fallen Xeric.
While the invaders were driven off, not all the buildings survived. The Northshield Inn, the apothecary, Uldinath’s Forge, Othovir’s Harness shop, Ransor’s Open Road, and a variety of residences were burnt down.
After the fight, Jayr was going through the town, helping out and healing those that needed it. He healed Othovic, who thanked him by telling him about where he could find some magic items: with the Margarster Family in Silverymoon. There, they owned a three-story tower with a detached carriage house. Beneath the passenger side seat in the carriage are the magic items.
Darz found the party after the battle. He thanked them and told them he knew of a way they may be able to make some money: a travelling friend of his had seen Weevil, a wanted Dwarf, in Xantharl’s Keep. There is a 5000 gold reward for him. His friend saw the wanted poster at the inn in Longsaddle.
Narth, who had been fighting next to Seraphina, came up to her. He noticed that she had been fighting quite well. Knowing of recent giant attacks, he asked her if she might be willing to do a delivery for him. He has a crate of 5 saddles headed to Noanar’s Hold. There they should find and deliver them to Amrath Mulnobar. He has paid the party in advance for their service: 100 gold, as well as a draft horse and wagon.
Urgala found Xeric and thanked him for his assistance by her inn. She started to offer the group room and board at her inn before remembering it burnt down. She instead offered to put them up at the Everwyver House and pay for their stay. She also told Xeric about a knight, named Hathos Zymorven, who owns a Giant Slayer Greataxe. He should be at Zymorven Hall, and if the party mentions her name and why they could use it, he may be willing to part with it.
Returning to Darathra, she thanked the heroes for their time. She gave Xeric a platinum badge with 3 boars charging forwards on it, Triboar’s insignia. She told the party they should travel to Everlund and go to Danivarr’s House. There, they should give the badge to Dral Thelev, and they will receive their reward.
The heroes retired to the Everwyvern House. It became obvious they weren’t overly welcome there and, under normal circumstances, would have never been allowed. The patrons turned their noses up towards our heroes, even though they had saved the town. Urgala asked the owners to treat Hark and Xeric due to their actionsSeraphina, on an impulse to get back at these snooty patrons, dared Xeric to steal someone’s jewelry. Xeric picked a target, and stumbled into them, allowing his daggers to fall out. He quickly slipped off someone’s signet ring while they were too busy to notice. He came back to Seraphina, gloating about how he had “won the dare” by showing off the ring, but she also claimed the win, as she now knew what Xeric could do. She and Jayr had a discussion about gods, mainly about Jayr’s goddess and who Seraphina worshipped and how. The party then retired for the night.
They ran a few more errands before getting ready to leave the town the next day.
And so the world comes to a standstill once more, waiting for the spirit of adventure to return and follow these heroes.
