In the depths of the underbelly of the Swan’s Shadow Theater, the air crackled with tension as the party faced a swarm of raw nerves, grotesque manifestations of psychic energy. Torren, the gargoyle cleric, repositioned himself and unleashed a blast of frozen energy, striking multiple foes, including Asterion, the mighty minotaur, who staggered from the significant injuries. As chaos erupted, Torren expanded a protective aura around himself, invoking the Shield of the Spirits, while Asterion felt a Raw Nerve probing his thoughts, heightening the stakes of the battle.
Bags, the swashbuckling wererat hobgoblin, tumbled through the fray, landing a significant blow on one of the raw nerves. Thumper, the automaton bard, conjured an invisible wall that shifted the dynamics of the battlefield, while Barry, the towering ice golem wizard, prepared to hurl a fireball at a woman beyond the melee, engulfing her and her Bat-Like Attendant in flames. Dreg, the ratfolk, summoned an elemental ally, directing a sweeping onslaught that decimated the clustered raw nerves, ultimately killing The Woman and her attendant.
As the remaining raw nerves continued their attacks, Asterion fought back fiercely, slashing down two of the creatures before missing a third. Torren recalled that the raw nerves were unholy and capable of emitting a stunning synaptic overload. Thumper was struck by a jolt-like attack, leaving him momentarily incapacitated. Bags finished off the last Raw Nerve with a precise thrust of her rapier, leaving the chamber silent.
With the immediate threat neutralized, the party searched the area, recovering a fearsome battleaxe, a clandestine cloak, and resilient hide armor from The Woman’s body, along with various treasures from a nearby bookshelf. Dreg identified a crystal-studded blue platinum ring that enhanced saving throws in urban settings, alongside a Ring Of Lies and a Ring Of Truth, which Torren recognized as useful tools for deception and truth detection. Torren tended to the wounds of the bound captives, untying them so they could escape.
The group made their way through a disused stone storm-drain tunnel, emerging back into the theater’s main level. Outside, they were greeted by Fallenta, who expressed concern for their well-being after hearing of their experiences beneath the theater. The rescued actors thanked the party, albeit with some trepidation regarding Barry’s earlier threats. Asterion attempted to smooth over the situation, framing Barry’s actions as misguided rather than malicious.
Fallenta, grateful for their bravery, offered her spellcasting aid and confirmed that she would block the sewer connection they had discovered. She declared that the group had passed their audition and offered them roles as co-producers for an upcoming opera, rewarding each member with 100 platinum and promising future profits to be shared equally. The party accepted the offer, agreeing to rest and reconvene the next day for detailed planning.
As they regrouped, they apportioned and sold the recovered gear, with Bags upgrading her gauntlets and Asterion enhancing one of his weapons. At a subsequent planning meeting, Fallenta outlined her vision for the opera in the Chelaxian style and requested the party recount their story for the production. They shared their origins in Otari, detailing their initial recruitment by Wrin to investigate strange lights from the lighthouse, their encounters with fey, animated dolls, and a Giant Scorpion, and their battles against ghouls and a ghost-like manifestation.
The narrative continued through their adventures, including the rescue of the Rowdy Rockfish Owner’s Son, their encounters with a werewolf, and the confrontation with the powerful devil Eurevian. Each member chose key moments for their Act II spotlight, highlighting their personal growth and pivotal decisions. Fallenta noted the wealth of material available for the opera and proposed to continue planning Act III at their next meeting.
