Winds of Change Session 6 Recap: Storms and Ancient Confrontations

The air crackled with tension as the party gathered two Phazon canisters, their curiosity piqued by the eerie glow emanating from cracked containers nearby. Lady Antkeep tested the water, confirming it was harmless, while the group collected two intact canisters and Research Notes from an upstairs area. They decided to head to Peshka to show the recovered bodies to local children, but Specter’s entrance wearing a lizard skull sent the townsfolk into a panic, prompting the group to leave and set their sights on Northport.

Upon arriving in Northport, the party spotted wanted posters featuring Marin, hinting at his need for disguise. Lady Antkeep’s attempt to mask him was futile, and Gorda, drawing on his underworld knowledge, ventured into a seedy tavern. There, he learned of a wealthy man’s recent passage and the cessation of seafaring due to storms. Two wode elves shared their shipwreck tales and mentioned a researcher named Charles, whom the party recognized as their former employer. They also reported unusual weather patterns plaguing the seas. Inquiries about the wanted posters revealed they were posted by Aretha, affiliated with Ajax. A lizardfolk approached Specter, questioning his skull, leading to a conversation that diffused tension. Specter sought information on “killing the storm,” which led him to a contact at the Tavern to the Winds. As he left, guards identified Marin and attempted to detain him. Gorda cleverly cut the guard leader’s belt, allowing Marin to escape through a sewer grate, while Specter used his intimidating presence to deter the guards. Marin navigated the sewers to hide near the party’s cart outside town.

At the Tavern to the Winds, Specter met a finely dressed wode elf who invited the party to discuss a potential alliance. The wode elf expressed his need to return home without traveling by sea and linked the recent storms to a mysterious tower near the Phazon site. In exchange for their assistance, he offered magical item imbuements instead of coin. Lady Antkeep negotiated the terms, and the party agreed to help. The wode elf departed to consult his crew, agreeing to meet the party at their cart. Upon reuniting, Marin remained hidden until the group returned, and the wode elf captain, Eeviaor, informed them that his surviving crew would stay behind while he accompanied the party.

After a day of travel, they arrived at an ancient entrance. Eeviaor chanted in Ilric, causing the runes to glow and the doors to open. However, when Marin addressed the dwarven guardians in Ilric, they refused entry to any elf, demanding Eeviaor remain behind. A conflict arose as both Eeviaor and the dwarves presented conflicting histories regarding the Wode Isles. Lady Antkeep and Matthew attempted to negotiate, but the dwarves offered only a one-time allowance for a single leader to pass, which the party declined, preparing for confrontation. Specter attempted to intimidate the dwarves with his skull mask, but combat erupted instead. Specter marked a dwarf and injured him, while the dwarven fighters retaliated. Gorda cleverly redirected a strike, causing collateral damage among the enemy ranks. Matthew inflicted holy damage, and Lady Antkeep unleashed powerful spells, eliminating a dwarf minion. As the battle raged, the party coordinated their attacks, with Marin teleporting to strike a dwarf. Specter grappled the dwarf leader, preventing him from using a grenade. The fight concluded with the last dwarf falling, leaving the party at the threshold of the ancient entrance, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead.
