In the aftermath of their previous battle against a formidable giant skeleton, the party found themselves gathered in a dimly lit room, a map clutched in their hands as they weighed their options. The ever-cautious Lightwing voiced concerns about the unexplored doors to the west and the ominous arena that loomed nearby. After a brief but tense discussion, the decision was made: they would venture into the arena, carefully sidestepping a mysterious portal that beckoned with danger.
As they crept forward, Slych deftly opened a set of locked doors, revealing empty gladiator quarters that whispered tales of past battles. Straining to listen at another door, Slych was met with an unsettling silence. Upon reaching the arena, the scene before them was both awe-inspiring and grotesque—torches flickered ominously, illuminating the ground littered with bones and remnants of flesh. Among the debris, glimmering Everlight crystals caught their eyes, each one worth a small fortune of fifteen gold pieces.
A plan began to form, centered around stealthily retrieving one of the precious crystals. Just then, Slych’s keen eyes caught sight of a Sugathi lurking behind a transparent wall, armed with a wand, chalk, and a tome of arcane knowledge. With a flick of Mage Hand, Slych expertly snatched an Everlight crystal without raising alarm, a small victory in the face of looming threats. The party also discovered a curious gong in the arena, a potential harbinger of chaos. Though the Sugathi seemed aware of their presence, it remained still, its attention diverted. However, Slych’s instincts kicked in as he warned his companions of two basilisks lurking nearby, creatures known for their petrifying gaze and cunning nature.
A heated debate ensued—should they engage or evade? The decision was made as Slych launched a powerful spell, striking one of the basilisks and drawing its ire. The first basilisk lunged at Sol’andriel, attempting to petrify him but only managing to bite down on his flesh. The second basilisk mirrored its companion’s tactics, yet Sol stood resolute. Shadow Bell held back, biding her time, while Lightwing’s attack was thwarted by the wall’s cover. Slych unleashed a flurry of spells, chipping away at the creatures’ health. Sol’andriel, unyielding in the face of danger, retaliated fiercely.
The battle escalated, and in a stunning display of skill, Slych delivered a critical blow that felled one basilisk. In the aftermath, the party noticed two intact statues—one resembling a vampire-like humanoid and the other a massive figure. In a moment of strategic brilliance, they decided to use the blood of the fallen basilisks to potentially revive any petrified allies. Looting the defeated creatures, they claimed a plus one striking composite short bow and a plus one chakram, bolstering their arsenal. With a plan in place, they successfully revived the smaller creature long enough to claim its bow, a small but significant triumph.
With their inventory in check, the party pressed onward to an unexplored western area. There, they uncovered a magically locked secret door, which Slych skillfully opened, revealing a dusty hallway that led to a neglected bed chamber. Inside, they discovered a foot locker filled with tiny emeralds, a fragile book that crumbled at their touch, and a magical Master Wraith’s Scarf. Among the treasures, they also found a blood secret beak talisman on a weapons rack, which they decided to distribute among themselves, bolstering their defenses.
Continuing their exploration, the party was confronted by a shadowy creature that threatened their very existence, igniting another round of initiative. Shadow Bell unleashed an electric arc, but the creature proved resilient. Sol’andriel, fueled by rage, charged forward but found his strikes falling short. Slych, however, unleashed a vitality blast that struck true, only to be met with a vicious counterattack that critically injured Sol. Lightwing’s sharp tongue demoralized the creature, and despite further attempts from Shadow Bell and Sol, the creature slipped through their grasp. Ultimately, it was Slych’s relentless assaults that led to the creature’s demise, a hard-fought victory.
The heroes explored a bit more, coming across a room with two arguing poltergeists who turned their attention to our heroes. Although it was a quick and easy fight, in the aftermath, the party discovered a lead-lined box amidst the debris. Though Slych initially struggled, he ultimately succeeded in unlocking it to reveal a Ring of Wizardry, a powerful artifact that Lightwing claimed for himself. The group then cautiously approached a semi-destroyed hallway adorned with glyphs that hinted at traps. Stealthily, they navigated down the stairs, overhearing voices beyond a door. Cracking it open, they were met with a chilling sight: Morlocks and a half-spider, half-elf creature awaited them.
After a brief but necessary healing session, the party steeled themselves for combat. Upon opening the door, the Morlocks spotted them, and chaos erupted. Shadow Bell attempted an electric arc, but the Morlocks’ resilience was formidable. The Sugathi commanding them cast a sinister spell on Slych, while Lightwing’s noise blast stunned one of their foes. Slych retaliated with a hail of splinters, wounding multiple enemies. As the battle raged, Sol’andriel engaged fiercely with a Dreshkon, while Shadow Bell and Slych combined their powers to vanquish their adversaries. After a fierce exchange, the party emerged victorious, having defeated the Dreshkon and further solidifying their reputation as formidable champions in this treacherous realm.
